As eco-conscious women, it can be hard to solve the oily skin issue without opting for harsh chemical-laden products. But we’ve found the recipe that does it! And who knew the answer was right in your pantry?!

Oily skin happens when your sebaceous glands create an overproduction of oil. The excess oil can wreak havoc on our skin by clogging pores and, thereby, causing blemishes. Although oily skin is primarily a result of genetics, diet, hormone levels, pregnancy, birth control pills, and cosmetics can be to blame. As eco-conscious women, it can be hard to solve the oily skin issue without opting for harsh chemical-laden products. But we’ve found the recipe that does it!  And who knew the answer was right in your pantry?!

Herbal Sauna INGREDIENTS:

  • Lemongrass
  • Licorice root
  • Rose buds

DIRECTIONS: A few times a week, simmer together 2 to 4 tablespoons of the herbs, dried or fresh will work, in 2 quarts of water.  Once the mixture has simmer for a minute or so, and while still steaming, place the pot on top of a trivet or thick potholder on a table, and sit with your face at a comfortable distance over the steam for fifteen minutes. You can use a towel to trap the steam if you wish. Immediately after,  splash your face with cold water and allow your skin to air-dry or pat it dry with a towel. The herbal water can be bottled as a toner and spritzed or dabbed onto your skin with a cotton ball.
