Yesterday I received my custom-made hemp diaper bag from Maxwell Designs.  The company has been popular in Canada for some time and I’m excited for designer Maggie Chilton to become better known here in the states!

Maxwell Designs is named for Maggie’s son,  Maxwell.  ”One look at those beautiful blue eyes and I was hooked, just like when I picked up my first sewing machine and started to create my first bag.”

Before Maxwell was born, Maggie was looking for a diaper bag and didn’t see anything she liked or that fit into her lifestyle. She wanted a unique bag that didn’t look like a diaper bag firstly, and secondly that it not made of plastic or vinyl.

Maggie now creates a line of hemp bags that are eco-friendly, anti-microbial, dye free, great for our environment. All of her products are made by hand in Canada.

The Maxwell bags are made from a variety of eco fabrics, primarily hemp.  The purse-sized bags feature 2 outer front pockets, 2 outside side pockets, 4 inside pockets, and an adjustable strap.  The bags can be worn over the chest as a messenger bag, allowing both hands to be free to do other things or as a purse.

She also makes baby clothing, changing pads and wet bags (to carry those soiled cloth diapers home in).

I’m thoroughly impressed and now a big fan!  I’ll have to remember this for baby shower gifts in the future!
